Legion Pick Up Raid Synopsis

Post by Blodsteinn »

Legion attempt synopsis:

Well, I was out RvR’ing last night when the call came through over /as that a Legion raid was forming in DF.

Since I know we’d been talking about Legion, and were considering going after the “real” Legion, I decided to attend, pick up some experience on the zone since it’s recent re-vamp/overhaul, and see what all the fuss was about.

I paid particular attention to the group makeup and folks we had present for the raid.

Group 1:
-----------------------------------
Warrior \ cross-guarding
Warrior /
Warrior \ cross-guarding
Warrior /
Healer
Shaman
Berserker
Spiritmaster (NON ml9)

Group 2:
----------------------------------
Healer
Shaman
Shaman-bot
Valkyrie
Shadowblade
Berserker
Skald
Healer (bot ??)

Group 3:
----------------------------------
Warrior
Shaman
Berserker
Shaman-bot

First off, and don’t take this as a critical critique – I’m trying to make it an objective critique for us to use in our upcoming Legion raid, if we plan to try for him.

We did ok with this setup, and we made it all the way to legion.

However, folks were dying quite a bit on every pull. We were pulling with a grouped warrior and/or berserker in group 1, and this worked great for most of the trash mobs on the way down, but once we got past the first gatekeeper the purple mobs got MUCH harder, and getting 2 or 3, and even 4 or 5 at a time on occasion was devastating. On one occasion we had a total wipe and had to rely on a healer RR5 ability to recover. Luckily, we had 2 RR5 healers to do that for us.

Respawn was fast on all counts, and it took all we could do to kill and move as respawn came up around us. With a distinct lack of casters and any form of ML9 pets and only 1 CoaTS (Spear-Valkyrie), we were hard pressed for DPS, and guard/protect coverage on the healers was sketchy at best the way groups were divided, so healers kept getting quite a bit of agro and once we got into the big mobs, we were losing healers/shaman (and buffs) quite frequently. With healers going down, we were also losing tanks several per pull (or mob) by the time we got into Legion’s room.

There was a lot of poison and disease, and it was trying at times – especially combined with almost strictly melee dps, and getting multiple pulls.

In Legion’s room, we pulled and fought our way down the left side of the hallway, pulling the pale guardians 1 or 2 at a time, for the first alcove initially, then holding position and pulling the second alcove, killing the guardians from there, and finally moving into the next alcove down, clearing and moving 1 alcove at a time to beat respawn, all the way down to Legion’s end of the hall. Often we’d get a named from the center and we’d kill him too.

Once at Legion, Blods pulled Legion’s Chamberlain on Legion’s right and we killed him. He came with 2 other guards, and it was an “interesting” fight. After that, the dias was free and we rushed Legion. We held our own for a bit, but there was a tremendous amount of adds spawning from Legion, and at this point I’m not sure if it was actually hitting Legion that does damage to him, or hitting and killing the tortured souls. At any rate, we had Legion down to around 90% when the chamberlain respawned right on top of our healing-section and started wiping them.

The raid last night pretty much went downhill VERY rapidly once the chamberlain respawned.

But, we had a distinct lack of Call of a Thousand Storms among the raid, along with a lack of ML9 pets, any form of Runemasters for damage bubbles, etc. I’m not sure if Legion Severs the Tether or not, so ML9 pets may have been a liability, but I’m sure they would have been useful on the way in, along with more DPS, and possibly a slight re-structuring of the groups.

That, in a nutshell, is my review from last night’s Pick-Up Legion raid. Also, none of us were on TS, so communication was slower, if not simply absent, in some areas.

Legion Recommendation - Thoughts:

If we take the same folks, and same groups that we took to Tusc. Glacier into DF to kill Legion, I don't think we'll have much problem getting to him.

Once we get to him, if the Thanes/Runies can AE/PBAE the throne area, I don't anticipate as much problem from the adds that keep pouring out of him.

The Chamberlain might be a greater issue if it respawns mid-fight like it did last night, but if we can dedicate our Supp SM (Von?) to the Chamberlain - I think that, coupled with an overall higher DPS would let us chew him down without a problem.

Legion's supposed to have been re-vamped to have all new loot, and I'd like to see some of it :D

The Legion in the Co5 Dungeon is up nearly all the time, and we can do him as a straight-shot even without everyone completing the other Co5 mobs if folks would like to try and practice on him. The tactic is the same, but I think Legion in Co5 is lower level and overall easier.

Several folks need the Co5 and Utgard though, and a good raid through there, Legion & Utgard-Lok inclusive, would take about 1 night to complete.

very well put together cicero.

aye, von is a supp sm now, and we'd pretty much use the same group of people we took to TG, maybe switch around some characters a bit on different classes.

we will have more 1k storms. and as the chamberlain goes, we'll prepare for him popping mid fight  as that may happen more than once.

the only thing that really worries me about legion is whether or not the behemoth is still present or not.

and yup, we plan on using the co5 legion as a warmup.

rest assured though, the big fella has his day coming.

only thing about that is, we'd have to open up df ourselves probably, just to get there, then clear out the remaining hibs/albs/ and then start the raid, which can, and more than likely will be a pain. so it's hard to schedule the DF legion these days.

Real nice post. I'll bring my warrior (or runie) to help out, you name it. Got some plans in the evenings this weekend, but anytime during the week

Well, since we have other runies stepping up to the call, I can bring the hunter for those long range pulls.

I have a nack for pulling only 1-2 mobs at the most and would most definitely keep things controlled. When game time comes let me know and I will bring whatever is needed of me.
