/rant on...

So here we are with another year behind us, and a whole new one to burn through. Before I kick this rant off, I'll tell you about my new year's day celebration. I spent the entire time watching Disney movies with Paige. She's such a sweetie. A great time was had by all.

Now here we are, it's now January 2nd. This is a day I'm usually happy, as tax season starts ( I'm probably the only person in the world happy about it). This year however, had a few bumps in the road. Instead of being able to come right in and get to work like normal, we are now regulated to doing cheap knock off loans because the federal government decided to not take any tax return until the 12th. Also, in addition to that headache, after a month long add campaign most people were all set to do their taxes with check stubs instead of w-2's. Once again however, the feds say nay....

Okay, I've seen worse, it's no big deal. We fire off the new tax year as always, and it's pretty busy for the first day. I've had 16 clients today, which shatters the previous first day record of 4. I've had to dance around public scorn for most of the day, as everybody seems to always shoot the messenger. It's not my fault that tax returns have to wait until the 12th...and it's not my fault that they now require a w-2, but you won't make the local yokels believe that. Needless to say, it's been a stressful day, but that's not what gets to me. I'm incredibly adept at handling stress, but some things, just really make you mad.

I'm convinced that 90% of the people around here place no value on their children until January, and only through April. I've answered the same question until the words sicken me. "How much is the earned income credit per child this year?"

It wouldn't be so bad, had I not heard Johnny Assclown in the background saying "We gonna make a killin off them kids this year, people gon' need dependants."

The other thing that really pissed me off today is some people's....well, one person's refusal to accept rejection. The loan we do, it's practically a bank loan. There's a credit check involved and the bank reviews the information entered in roughly 3-5 minutes. I'm sorry, but a lady with bad credit, who made 4k this year and is claiming she supported 2 kids throughout the year isn't going to get a loan.

Instead, this woman will be turned down and spend the rest of her day bothering me about why she got turned down. Even after I explained everything out to her, as bluntly and forward as I can without resorting to profanity and violence, she still refused to believe that she could ever be denied anything. I admire her spirit, but her methods really pissed me off.

So after 7 phone calls from this lady today, I give her a number to the bank we do business through, she called them. The lady at the bank told her the same exact thing I did. Instead of accepting what cannot be changed, what does our girl do? She contacts her friend, who knows a bit about taxes and suddenly, we arrive at the destination I've been waiting for..."you're wrong and you messed up."

I'll admit that I'm human and sometimes do make mistakes, but not in this case. I went over this return at least 23 times today, step by step, it is flawless. However, it doesn't matter to some people. It doesn't matter that in the three years I've been doing this job, I have a 93% approval rate, which is phenomenal. It doesn't matter that I practically live and breathe this job. What matters is that she got denied a loan that would've been 175% apr and 75% interest, had she not paid it back on February 19th....and that interest penalty, it's unforgiving. The 75% (which isn't a flat rate, just her rate) is a monthly penalty...the IRS isn't even that strict.

All that mattered to this woman was she didn't get a loan. So, after enduring this all day, I finally come up with a solution. My solution is to make it someone else's problem...hers. I told her to come in tomorrow and I'll fill out an amended tax return for last year. The reason I'm having to do that is because eventually, her friend who's awesome at taxes figured out why she didn't get a loan..there's a mistake with last year's return. I checked over this return myself, there's nothing wrong with it.

She wants it amended though, so I'll do that for her. Then, when the IRS gets this amended return (that will be amended for no reason), they'll look into the problem and see that this lady who couldn't wait 12 days has basically been lying on her taxes for the last 10 years.

Sure am glad I didn't prepare those returns. Her friend however, will have some explaining to do.

This is why, you need me there as your Security. I would have handled that situation just like I handled the Chucky Book argument.

"Hey, you have two choices. A) You leave healthy and under your own power. B) I get up from this chair, F(*6start your face and you leave in an ambulance.

You have 10 seconds to comply or I will assume you choose B...9,8,7

Voila, your problem is solved.
BEHOLD!!!! The gaseous stench of SKELETOR's breakfast burrito!!!!

or. you could have

Post by Urgon »

or, you could have her fill out the ID-ten-T form (write it out using numbers) and charge her $1000 to file it!

We deal with the same kind of folks sometimes on car loans. They don't pay their bills, lie to government, and can't figure out why they can't get credit anywhere....

At least you can lie to her and have a little fun at her expense.... in the car biz we are so heavily regulated, that we cannot sell them a car if they 'appear' to be hiding info from the government.

I feel for you farf....
