is it all just lore??

One problem I'm having, and I'm just being honest here, is although there are a lot of quests and not much grinding, the quests are boring as hell. "Go talk to Shamisorierareisaran in the City of Blahblah" Ok. "Go collect 8 Flowers of Glowishness from some field on the way to some town somewhere you've never been." Ok. "blahblahblah - lore - blahblahblahblah" Ok.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely used to questing from WoW, that's not the problem. The boring part is that I don't really care to hear why some merchant in this town has a family feud with a merchant from another town, and I don't want to read three paragraphs about why I should kill this dog who mauled someeone's mother. I guess I've gotten used to the quests in WoW always throwing some funny kind of bone in a way. Quirky names, quests for a boomerang for a guy named Link, constant interaction with 12 year olds. Believe it or not, although it's frustrating, it is quite entertaining. Maybe I'm not high enough level to get to the really good stuff yet. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Although Tolkein's story is one for the ages, I'm more familiar with WoW lore than I ever have been with LotR lore. I played all the Warcraft games. I shivered when I watched the previews of TBC and saw Illidan flexing his muscles. I cringe at the thought of Blizzard actually putting Arthas in the game somewhere.

Maybe the graphics are disappointing. Maybe I've been playing for too long. I don't know.

help me get excited and I swear I can talk Chad into it. ;)

Lil, there are alot of FedEx quests at the lower levels and even my hunter gets some FedEx quests still (Lvl 22). Your epic quest does follow the lore so you'll never get away from that (I found it wickedly cool that I've had the chance to interact with Strider/Aragorn, Gandalf, and Radagast so far and I'm only 22). Hopefully, IMO, the lore never goes away and to be honest I like the actual stories behind the quests. I don't know squat about Blizzard's world. I've played Diablo and Diablo 2, I think that covers the extent of my Blizzard gaming. I definately have the attraction the LotR lore like you do to Blizzard's. I can't help with the graphics, to me they look great.

I can tell you that I have 3 quests that are still giving me fits. Purging the dead (Kill 25 barrow wights inside Great Barrows), Heading West (Kill 15 fell spirits in the Great Barrows), and An Ancient Story of Evil (collect two halfs of a key in the Great Barrows). Right now the Great Barrows are the bane of my existance. If you want to take a look at the content higher than the intro areas, shoot me an email and I'll arrange it.

Lil (and anyone interested) I was poking around on the beta forums and came across these screenshots.

The beta client you're probably playing with: http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3567 ... ureit5.jpg

The hi-res (release?) client bundled with the pre-order box(from B&M stores): http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/5628 ... 021jk0.jpg

I've seen the high res stuff and it looks amazing :)

I don't want to get away from lore completely, but I guess what I'm saying is that LotR seems so RP to me. Like I should be saying "Hail" and thees and thous. Something I can't quite put my finger on. I was never really very good at that.

I guess that I wish you guys would come play WoW so I can lavish you with expensive gifts and half naked women and gold. :P

That screenshot was done at 1600x1200 resolution. If this is the same engine they used in D&D online, i'm pretty sure it is, you are going to need one helluva gaming system to ever play it with those settings.

Actually, it looks more like they added displacement mapping, and perhaps some specular lighting. The detail on his chainmail & guantlets is better. It is not just the rez. (i.e. I didn't even notice the rez difference. Both images had crisp enough edges).

My 3 cents.

p.s. I loved the graphics.
p.p.s. I'll play just to hang out with you cool kids...

There isn't any difference in resolution between the two pictures. Both are at 1600x1200 resolution. They just don't have the hi-res textures in the beta client. I guess it would have made the client download a bit larger. I noticed that the beta client wouldn't let me turn up anisotropic filtering either so I'm guessing they left several goodies to play with in the pre-order version of the client :)

Well, I did pre-order LOTRO .. from Best Buy, and once again, a launch day has come and gone with no product.

<sheeesh>

To bad it's only the <1% of us who care about such things... otherwise those guys should go out of business....

guess I'll just have to wait till tomorrow...... <sigh>

I did the same as you, Urgon, and I'm still waiting, too. Of course, they added a few days of grace period to my account, so I don't think there will be any downtime. Did you get the same treatment?
