July 1 sounds good to me :)

I'll make sure to get all the days off while you're here, my boss has already said I can (except for the 4th) so we're good there. I'll try to work day shift on the 4th so we can do something that evening.

Like I said, it's really the only day when we can explode things and not get in trouble. (most fireworks are illegal here) Maybe Khary's brother and gf will have a get together we can attend, I guess we'll see. :)

Fisto Plans

Post by Soothsayor »

Hey Fisto,

Am I reading that right you are gunna be in Vegas Thur/Fri nite and leave Sat, or should it be Fri/Sat nite leave Sun..

Let me know, I will fly in the same day and spend extra time on the drink..

Also what are your accom plans, I think I saw somewhere early on you were gunna crash at Kitty's, if this has changed let me know and I will book into the same hotel, if not if Kitty can suggest a handy venue I would appreciate it..

If we can sort this soon it would be appreciated as I am flying back to Brissie after Vegas, and need to organise that leg of my trip..

Cheers
Sooth

I've taken the week of June 11th-15th off, so I should be set for the travels. But we need some confirmation of dates, Phisto, so I know exactly when to schedule hotel rooms, etc.

right ok... have spoken to my travel agent and this is what i am goin g to do.

I land in LA on the 8th. Ill fly to Denver on the 9th. Whats better for you Khar? Morning, Afternoon or Night? I can fly over on the 8th if that better again (let me know so i can book the flight from here)

What happens form the 9th (or when i land in Denver) with respect to in Dever and getting to vegas is all in Kahrys hands. I dont know the area so i cant guess.

If sooth and urgon are going to stay in a hotel then thats what im going to do (Khary your room is on me for driving me all that way). When in veags, do as they do in vegas. I might as well live the dream. Kitty, ill come stay with you after that if thats alright (when the others leave). Hell... why doesnt Kitty, Brad and HeidiHo stay in the hotel too. VT party room!

Kitty ... can you organise something for rooms since you have the local knowledge. Whatever you book is fine... but remember... some of us are cops so dont want to be around scum (im sorry). not 5 star but not 1/2 star... i think you know what i mean.

And i dont care what any of you say, this is not up for negotiation, the first round of VT Vegas drinks is on Sooth! <edit : ok its on me!>

If Khary is cool with driving back solo then ill stay on in Vegas, but if he isnt then ill travel with him and fly back, then off to alaska. (KILLA POST YOU BASTARD!)

Why not come in on the afternoon of the 9th, Phisto? That will give you time to relax that day from all the flying, and it gives us the 10th to hit the mountains. The 11th will likely be taken up with new house stuff, but on that evening and probably the 12th, we can do Denver city stuff.

We will need hotel rooms on the 13th (near Grand Canyon), the 14th, and 15th (both in Vegas). Did you want to share a room until you crash with Kitty (if available), or do separate rooms? I'll go ahead and set up the car rental for the 13th through the 17th.

I don't mind sharing rooms. Just wanted to be courteous in case you had some weird disorder.

Kitty, did you say you could recommend a good hotel for us in Vegas? I figure it should be no sweat to find one near the Grand Canyon for the night of the 13th, but I'll defer to your wisdom on the Vegas locales.

Vegas Hotels ... et al.

Post by Urgon »

As for hotels, I have a few suggestions. (Kitty, jump in anytime and correct me..)

Visit www.lasvegas.com as they have a 'room finder' that does a good job of finding pricing for the various hotels around town.

My suggestion, is find a cheap on-strip hotel. It keeps you close to the action, and you can walk to the better casinos from there.

Some casinos have really cheap mid-week rates (like the Stratosphere), but Friday & Staturday nights are always a lot more!.

I would say avoid the Stratosphere. It is in the scummy part of town (but very near some great strip clubs!).. but it's not the best place to be walking to/from in the middle of the night. Not really that close to the main strip...its at the north end.

Freemont street and the old downtown vegas has much cheaper rates typically, and it is still the 'old vegas'. A lot more gritty & smokey .. not as polished and glitzy as the new strip hotels. But, plenty of good ol'Vegas fun!

Some local casinos are very good (I like the Station Casinos, and they are all within a few miles of the strip.) You'd have to drive in to the strip if you wanted to walk about, etc.

Rio and the Palms are very near the strip, but still a long walk from there. But decent hotels (as is the Orleans), and close enough for the Vegas experience.

My quick look at lasvegas.com shows that the Luxor (south end of strip, but nice hotel) and Imperial Palace (mid-strip, ok hotel, but near Ceasers and all the cool places) are averaging $85/nite to $110/nite (averaged out for the cheaper Thur. nite stay).

Harrahs may also be of interest... ($107/nite avg).

Excaliber is cheap ($86/nite avg) .. and for a reason. It is done up with tons of mideval flair like suits of armor, swords, etc. A lot of fun to walk around, but it comes off a bit cheesy. That hotel, and Circus circus is kinda know for really bad food ... and food poisonings .. so don't eat there. One the good side, it is on the corner with some stellar hotels like New York New York, MGM Grand. The Luxor is just down south of it too...

Hope that helps!

Heh, Urgon... Excalibur might actually be appropriate, considering how most of the folks in VT met. Some swords, some armor, and a hell of a lot of cheese. :P

Sounds fine to me! It's not like there is any shortage of good places to eat or drink in that town!

And, I do hope Kitty will recommend some excellent pubs! :D

p.s. is Wooligan's still around up in Summerlin? They used to have irish folk music on Thursdays and Fridays.....

Wooligans is still around but the better Irish pub these days is Fados in the Green Valley Ranch. They hve an Irish folk band there on Saturdays called Darby O'gill and the Little People. They play great music and the pub is set up really nice. Only problem is its over in Green Valley and thats all the way on the other side of the city from me and Gwen.
