video card?
Hi all how is everyone doing? have a question about video cards. I just got a new mother board as my old one fried. now have dual core 2.5 ghz with 4 gig ram but my video card is nvida 6600. any ideas what would be a good one to upgrade to or ones to stay away from?
Im using a 9800 gtx at the moment and it pretty much gets the job done no matter what I throw at it. Not to mention since Nvidia released its 200 series the 9800s have really come down in price. Heck for the price I paid you could probably get 2 and SLI them together if your board is capable, but 1 really should get the job done. As for ATI I havent had much interaction with them in a long while so I have no clue what they are making these days...
Rumble, Lazer Beak, Ravage, prepare for battle. Operation... Warefare. Eject! Eject! Eject!
Nvida 9800 GTX+
Heya,
I gotta agree with the Nvidia 9800 GTX+. I just built a new computer, and put 2 of these guys on the Nvidia SLI motherboard (each with 512MB vram), and it was very affordable (~$150/each)
The other 9800 series cards do not have the same memory throughput, so I would definitely go for the GTX+.
Although a word to the wise, if you go with SLI, make sure you have a beefy enough power supply (600W+) and extra fans. When I put Battlefield 2142 into 4X anti-aliased high-res, I can overhead within 30 minutes. I need to add another fan to my front grill to increase air flow.
For a single card though, you will still get amazing performance from this tried & true card, and not have to worry about upping the power supply.
Nvidia has nice drivers too!

Hope that helps!
