An idea in 2 parts:

Subject: DAoC -- RvR Idea

Here's an idea for RvR for you guys to ponder.

You could make it an ability or a buff that never leaves the frontier, called "Realm Protector" or something, and have 1 buff per cluster that cylces through the players. The way to get the buff - is to kill the guy with it.

It could be set up as a hidden (or visible even) quest that always gets reset when the player loses the buff, and completed when they kill the current guy with the buff. If the person logs out, goes LD or zones, with the buff up, they lose it, and it could be transferred to an NPC. At server reset, a random NPC in the frontier could have the buff.

The same thing could also be done in each battlefield as a "Battlefield protector" - with lowered enhancements according to the battlefield. The same quest could work as a player can only be in 1 battlefield at a time.

As I envision it, this buff would be like an impish, magical energy that would "bond" with a player, and stack with every other buff.

While a player had this buff -- his name would display a different color for enemy realm players. Perhaps make it a gold color, or some other bright stand-out, easily visible color... or just put some kind of visible effect on the character, maybe a fire-effect or some glowing radiance, whatever - but it should be visible on sight.

I'm not sure how the game is set up or if there's a cap on the number of things a buff can enhance, so again, this is just me brainstorming, but the buff would convey the following:

+100 HP
+100 AF
+10 all stats (STR/CON/DEX/QUI/CHA/PIE/INT/EMP)
+5% all resists
+2 all weapon and casting skills
+2% casting speed/range/damage
+2% melee speed/damage/style damage

When the player gets killed, whoever gets in the killing blow "completes the quest", and gets the Realm Protector buff until he's killed, zones, or leaves the game. I don't have a problem letting people /duel for it either if theyr'e on the same realm and in the frontier. Since it would pass back and forth between all 3 realms, it would be self-policing, fair for everyone, and add a little twist and pizzaz to the frontier for everyone.

... and maybe even an element of "kill the man with the ball" -- or in this case, "kill the man with the golden carrot".

I think it would be fun, and probably wouldn't be "too" difficult to accomplish - depending on the quest reward system, and if some quests can be flagged to be last-hit only instead of group when everyone has the quest, and then how that would bypass the pet. Perhaps the reward could be a hidden thing like a bag of coins, that the buff-holder contains, then when the player is killed, it drops to the ground, and when looted - would go to a random person from the killing group, just like an item.

If the player is killed by an NPC other than a realm-guard NPC, the buff goes to that NPC until someone comes along and kills him. If it's a realm guard -- the buff goes back into the frontier at random just as if it was a server-up.

Part 2 === Updated message to Sanya.

I thought of an even simpler way to work this:

Just have a placeholder mob that drops the buff effect. You could have an item with an item drop when it dies. /use the item, the item poofs, and the player has the realm defender buff. Have the item go to a random player in the group, just like any other loot. I was also thinking, instead of a particle effect or changing the player's name color -- another neat idea would be to "super-size" him like with an ML9 pet while the character has the buff, but it may be easier to just do an aura type particle effect.

If the person dies, when you do the on_player_death trigger, when you spawn the corpse object, just spawn the placeholder mob at the same location as the player's corpse as a non-agro imp-type mob. Whomever, or whatever group, kills the mob then gets the buff-item back randomly.

When the realm defender player dies to an NPC, zones, LDs, or on server-up, just respawn the mob in a random spot in the frontier or battleground somewhere.

It would still be functionally more-or-less the same, but much simpler to code and implement.

Fisto, Fisto...

Did you even read the last part of the idea...

And Blod, thats gold... Would love to see that implemented.. No way someone would hold it indefinitely as they have to log/LD at some stage.. Even a Chinese farmer couldnt get around it other than multiple people using same account on same computer... Maybe a timer migh be relevant.. ie: max allowable per toon..

P.S. Fisto get your butt back in game.. Spoke with Mont, he aint coming back in the short term if at all..
